The State of Environment report plays a vital role in tracking changes in the environment in terms of (a) impacts of social and economic development pressures; (b) consequences of those changes on human and environmental well-being; and (c) future sustainable development options. An SOE report can therefore be used to strengthen the environmental sustainability of national development plans and policy decisions.

  1. How familiar are you with your country's State of the Environment Report?
  2. How has the data in the SoE been used?
  3. Can you give some examples of policy action areas that was developed by your ministry/ organization as an outcome of the SoE?

1. I am very much part of the team that development the current SOE Report of the Cook Islands.
2. The data was use as a baseline for decision making for development here in the Cook Islands specially on the main Island of Rarotonga.
3. The review of our current Environment Act 2003 was due to the SOE data and other findings which needs to be strengthen for the protection of our National Environment here in the Cook Islands.

I am new to my role at NES, and am currently familiarising myself with the SOE 2023. Good to note Ben's response below that it is informing the review of Environment Act 2003.

I am not really familiar with the SOE report of Solomon Islands. However, it involved alot of stakeholders in the consultative process. It has set the basis to inform the Government and stakeholders of status, trends and drivers of change towards environment. It has another Action Plan called National Environment Management Strategy.
