Unit One: Environment Data Management
Online Learning Courses

Warm Pacific Greetings, Salutations chaleureuses du Pacifique. Welcome to the SPREP Inform Project Online Learning Courses.
The project "Building National and Regional Capacity to Implement Multilateral Environmental Agreements by Strengthening Planning and the State of Environmental Assessment and Reporting in the Pacific", referred to as the Inform Project, recognizes the need for this data-driven decision making. The project has established a Pacific island network of national and regional data repositories and reporting tools to support the monitoring, evaluation, and analysis of environmental information, which supports environmental planning, forecasting, and reporting requirements.
The Inform Project online courses introduces professionals to the importance of environmental data portals in the Pacific context, and how to use national and regional data management portals. Knowledge and understanding are important for driving and bringing about informed decision making.
There are two (2) Units/Subdomains :
- Environmental Data Management
- Environment Reporting (Indicator Reporting Tool)

This is Unit One :Environmental Data Management.
There are five modules in this unit - each with lecture videos and activity lessons with quizzes. This first Unit will walk you through the regional and national data portals so that you can benefit from the effective utilization of this new platform. You will receive a Certificate of Completion upon the fulfilling all requirements to complete Unit One - which will the allow you to participate in the Unit/Subdomain Two: Environment Reporting.
At the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Understand environment data portals - Pacific Environment Portal and Pacific Data Ecosystem
- Understand the structure of data portals, license levels for sharing data and metadata - creating and uploading datasets
- Developing data stories and sharing across social media portals
- Understand the importance of good data management and practices
- Better understand the data approval process and the importance of having a data sharing protocol

Instructions
In each of the five learning modules, you are provided with a lecture video, a PowerPoint slides of the video and an Activity Lesson. In order to complete each each learning module, you will have to read through the Activity Lesson and complete the various quizzes. You will not be able to open the next module activity lesson, unless you have completed the previous module.
Mandatory to Complete the Course

To complete the course, you will need to attend (mandatory country) zoom meeting, as well as the feedback section.
In order to complete the course you will have to meet the 4 following requirements:- Complete all five learning modules' Activity Lessons
- Post at least one input in each of the threads in the Talanoa-Discussion Forum
- Join a virtual zoom sessions with your course facilitators
- Complete and submit the course evaluation

At the end of Module One you will be able to:
- Understand why the environment data portals were developed
- Understand what an environment data portal is
- Understand the role and goals of the environment data portals in decision making in the Pacific region
- Understand the network of national environment portals, and the link between the Pacific Environment Portal and the Pacific Data Ecosystem
- Understand how the key functions of the portals operate
Complete Module One Activity Lesson -

At the end of this Module Two, you will be able to:
- Understand the structure of the data portal
- Be able to create a dataset in the portal
- Be able to upload resources into a dataset
- Understand the importance of and difference between the three license levels
- Understand the different metadata, and how to edit and delete datasets and resources
Complete Module Two ACTIVITY LESSON -

At the end of Module Three, you will be able to:
- Use the portal to develop and post data stories
- Share stories from the portal across other social media platforms
Complete Module Three ACTIVITY LESSON -

At the end of Module Four, your will be able to:
- Understand tips and tricks for good data management on the environment data portal
Complete Module Four ACTIVITY LESSONS -
At the end of Module Five, you will be able to:
- Understand the approval process before uploading data on the portal
- Understand license levels for sharing data
- Understand the importance of having a data sharing agreement and/or policy
